National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada!

As part of our ongoing Heritage Collections project, the EYCDC Library has a growing collection of over 45 Mi'kmaw books available for loan. These include both fiction and non-fiction books for children and educators. Please visit our online catalogue and type in 'Mi'kmaw" to see them all.

If you are interested in developing our Mi'kmaw Heritage Collection further, we are looking for members of the Mi'kmaw community to work with us and create play-based kits grounded in history, tradition, and legacy. For more information on this project, please contact Olha Khaperska at [email protected]

Professional Learning

Saturday, June 28th, from 9:00AM to 12:00PM, we will be offering a session of Culturally Responsive Leadership.

This professional learning module has been designed to empower directors, assistant directors, pedagogical leaders, inclusion coordinators, and educators in coaching and leadership roles to support others in implementing culturally responsive practice.

The session is intended for early childhood education leaders who have completed the 12-hour Culturally Responsive Practice module.

EYCDC Library

You may have noticed over the past few months that we have been busy doing some spring cleaning. This was all to make room for some new additions to our library! These items cover a broad range of skills and interest with many of the new additions selected with infants and toddlers in mind.

Tilt & Turn Liquid Sensory Windows (SM 093), Easy Twist Animal Builders (FM 248), Waldorf Wooden Village (DP 817), Savannah Rhythm Band (CM 032), Snap & Build Sight-Words (L 4051), Easy Hold Kaleidoscopes (SM 094), Fine Motor Forest Friends (FM 249), Counting Cones (M 611).

Did you know that we have a Reserve a Resource option? Using the form, provide details of the items you're looking for and your contact info (your name and email address). We will be in touch once the items have been collected to arrange a pick up time.

Children's Visits to the Library

We welcome educators and children to explore the Library and borrow materials! We set aside Wednesday mornings, but feel free to contact us to arrange a visit on other days as well. Fill out a short form and let us know when you wish to come. This Wednesday, we enjoyed a visit from one of the Pre-Primary classrooms in the area. Children followed their curiosities and explored everything from dolls and doctor's kits to puzzles and musical instruments! We hope to share our beautifully curated space with you and your children and encourage you to contact us!
