Learning with Mi'kma'ki
Learning with Mi'kma'ki is a new professional development opportunity for early childhood professionals in Nova Scotia. The 6-hour course is focused on learn to see the land and the natural environment through the Mi'kmaw lens and discover how to apply Two-Eyed Seeing to your ECE practice.
Saturday, October 5th, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The first 3 hours of the session will be held in the classroom at NSCECE (6208 Quinpool Rd. 2nd Floor, Halifax, NS) and the final 3 hours will be held in Point Pleasant Park.
Each participant will have a chance to win a prize: a book Mi’kmaw Moons, the Seasons in Mi'kma'ki,
by Cathy LeBlanc and David Chapman illustrated by Loretta Gould that describes traditional teachings about the moon cycles and their relation to the natural history of Mi’kma’ki on Canada’s East Coast.

Culturally Responsive Practice
We will be hosting two upcoming sessions of Culturally Responsive Practice in Nova Scotia's Early Learning and Child Care Setting. Both sessions will be offered fully online. The dates are as follows:
Session 1: Tuesday, October 15th, 2024, 6:30pm-8:30pm
Session 2: Thursday, October 17th, 2024, 6:30pm-8:30pm
Session 3: Saturday, October 19th, 2024, 9:00am-1:00pm
Session 4: Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024, 6:30pm-8:30pm
Session 5: Thursday, October 24th, 2024, 6:30pm-8:30pm

EYCDC Library
REMINDER: From September 5th to October 17th, the EYCDC will not be open for browsing.
During this time, materials can still be borrowed, however, customers will be required to reach out ahead of time and request items for pick-up.
The EYCDC Library collection can be viewed from anywhere in our online catalogue. Loose Parts are not included in this catalogue but are still available to be loaned. All loan requests should be made through the form included on our website or by email (at [email protected]). If you know the specific item you are looking for, please include the call number and item name (ex. M 608 - Counting Ladybugs). If you are unable to locate a specific item, please give as much description as possible and we will send back possible options. Once a request has been made, we will schedule a pick-up time.
EYCDC Staff will still be available during our regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. As always, extended hours are available by request. Please contact us to arrange an appointment.
