Capable, Confident, and Curious: Nova Scotia’s Early Learning Curriculum Framework

It is an exciting time in the Nova Scotia Early Learning and Child Care field! In anticipation of the release of the revised curriculum framework, the NEW Module 1 - Image of the Child - is here!

It will uncover the possibilities for using the first part of the Framework, and the "whys" of being able to use your Image of the Child in practical ways. Join us for this interactive session that will be the foundation for the rest of the Framework.

We are offering two Module 1: Image of the Child sessions over the coming months:

Tuesday, November 19th, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM & Thursday, November 21st, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Learning with Mi'kma'ki

Learning with Mi'kma'ki is a new professional development opportunity for early childhood professionals in Nova Scotia. The 6-hour course is focused on learn to see the land and the natural environment through the Mi'kmaw lens and discover how to apply Two-Eyed Seeing to your ECE practice.

Saturday, October 5th, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The first 3 hours of the session will be held in the classroom at NSCECE (6208 Quinpool Rd. 2nd Floor, Halifax, NS) and the final 3 hours will be held in Point Pleasant Park.

Each participant will have a chance to win a prize: a book Mi’kmaw Moons, the Seasons in Mi'kma'ki, 
by Cathy LeBlanc and David Chapman illustrated by Loretta Gould that describes traditional teachings about the moon cycles and their relation to the natural history of Mi’kma’ki on Canada’s East Coast.

Introduction to the Gaelic Culture for ECEs

You may have seen our teasers over the last few months for a new seminar coming to our online platform. We're thrilled to announce our newest free seminar, Introduction to the Gaelic Culture of ECEs. Hosted by Eamag Dhòmhnullach and supported by the Department of Gaelic Affairs, this PD is an opportunity for ECEs in Nova Scotia to learn about the Gaels, their historical background, traditions, and modern day revival of culture and language.

This seminar also includes a detailed look at the EYCDC's Gaelic Cultural Collection, how the materials reflect the Gaelic culture, and how they benefit children's development.

In June, we had our first session of the new 6-hour PD training Learning with Mi'kma'ki. Participants spent the morning indoors for a presentation and in the afternoon they braved the spring rain for a visit to Point Pleasant Park for outdoor activities.

You may remember a few months ago we teased that filming was happening in the EYCDC. We are happy to announce that this was for the upcoming free seminar Introduction to Gaelic Culture.

This seminar, hosted by Eamag Dhòmhnullach (or Emily MacDonald from Cape Breton), will be the starting point of your education on one of Nova Scotia's historic cultures.
